2009 QUAIL
CREEK MONDAY NIGHT MEN’S LEAGUE RULES
All rules not specifically addressed here
are to automatically revert to the official rules of golf.
League play starts Monday night, May 4th,
2009. A foursome will tee off every nine
(9) minutes. Beginning tee times are staggered during the season to allow for
daylight hours. Please consult official
schedule for your tee times each week. If
a golfer shows up late, they will be allowed to catch up with their assigned
foursome. In the event the foursome has left the number one tee, the late
player must take the maximum score for that hole. The player must start at #2
if the group has already left the tee area. If the player doesn’t catch them by the time
they have left the #4 tee box, the match will be considered a forfeit. The
player may choose to pay for the holes and play, but team points and points for
that player will be forfeited.
Golfers must be 18 years of age or older
to participate in the league. League
fees are $100.00 per team. Please have this turned in by the end of May, 2009. There will be a penalty for those that do not
have it turned in. Team points will
determine prize money at the end of the year.
All teams will receive a cash prize.
Green fees are applicable to course standards and payable to the course
before you tee off each week.
On the 1st night of play for
any team member or sub, the handicap to be used will be last year’s ending
handicap. For newcomers to the league,
the handicap will be based on an 80% Callaway handicap. This amounts to 80% of the score you shoot
(nothing over triple bogey will count towards your handicap). For all golfers on the 2nd night,
the handicap will be based on the first round.
On the 3rd night, the handicap will be based on the average
of the first two rounds. On the 4th night, the handicap will be
based on the average of the first three rounds. On the 5th and
succeeding nights, the handicap will be based on the average of the proceeding
4 rounds. This is a 100% handicap
league. Anything above a triple bogey is NOT added to your handicap. The highest handicap allowed is an 18.
For match play, you’ll be playing against
a member of the other team in your foursome. Handicap will be used to determine
who plays whom. High plays high; low
plays low. A member from each team
should appear on the top half as well as the bottom of the score card. For the 2008 season, the handicaps of the
golfers on your team will be printed on the scorecards. There will still be a list of handicaps in
the clubhouse to check handicaps for your convenience.
No golfer may take more than 4 shots above
par for the hole. Example: if you are
playing a par 4 and you have 7 strokes you must sink the next shot. If you
don’t, you first have to pick up the ball, take an 8 plus and you owe $1.00 to
the quad kitty. You only pay the kitty
once per night. A natural quad, even in a handicap situation, always beats a quad
plus. If both have a quad plus, the hole is deemed a push; handicap included. The maximum handicap allowed any player
is 18. Be sure to put the plus on the card for scoring purposes. This
only has to do with the match, and not the team score.
All scorers are to record the gross score for
each hole and factor in the handicap to determine the hole for scoring. For
each match, 2 points will be awarded to the player winning the most holes and 1
point will be awarded to the player with the lower net score; both to be
determined by handicaps. In the event of a tie, each player gets half; 6 points
will be awarded to the team having the lower total net score. Three points in
the event of a tie. Teams not fielding 4 players will forfeit team points, but
qualify for individual points.
Before handing into the secretary, all
scorecards must be added up by the players with:

PLEASE
CHECK YOUR HANDICAP BEFORE YOU PLAY!
Failure to write down the correct handicap for any given night will result in
the player playing with the handicap as written. If you’re a 10 handicap and
you write down a 7, you play with a 7 for that night. Of course the secretary will try to correct
any mistakes in addition, but the handicap you played at determines who wins
each hole in match play.
A match is considered official when all
teams have finished 5 holes. If a rainout occurs before all players have
finished 5 holes, all matches will be cancelled. Rainouts will be added to
either a position round or the end of the season. Rain checks are issued if you have not
completed your 5th hole. If
you have, it is considered you have completed your round. The league may decide to cancel play because
of weather or overwhelming circumstances (such as the flood of 2008). It is up to the golf course management on
whether to issue rain checks, and they will only do so if they deem that play
is unsafe or impossible due to conditions.
This will be taken into consideration when the league decides to cancel
play for any reason.
We
are playing the ball down according to the rules of golf. You may not roll
the ball as in past years, unless the league and the course conditions call for
rolling the ball on that specific night. Younger trees, staked or in some cases
mulched trees, are a free drop given by the course to allow them to grow and
avoid damage. Please come to an
agreement and alert your opponent if you are taking a drop for any reason, to
avoid misunderstandings. A ball that is
up against a railroad tie surrounding a hazard or fence may be hit or played as
an unplayable lie with a 1-stroke penalty. Railroad ties around a cart path are
not considered to be a hazard, and a free drop is given, no closer to the hole. If your swing is obstructed by the cart path,
or you must stand on the cart path, a free drop, no closer to the hole, is also
awarded.
A lost ball is considered to be lost when
the person who hit the ball and/or his opponent say the ball is lost. It is good etiquette to assist your fellow
golfer and/or opponent in the search for the ball. A lost ball will be played at the point it was
last known to be located. The player who
hit the ball and the opponent will agree on a fair spot for where it shall be
placed. There is a 1-stroke penalty for
a lost ball. This does not include a
ball which may have gone out of bounds. In
the event there is a dispute, as to where the ball shall be placed, two balls
will be played until the hold is complete, and the rules committee will make a
judgment.
Out-of-bounds is played from the original
spot plus 1-stroke penalty. If you’re not sure the ball went out-of-bounds, hit
a provisional ball ALWAYS!! If you advance to where you think the ball is
located and it is determined the ball is out-of-bounds, a 2-stroke penalty will
be given. The ball will then be played from the spot the ball was last known to
be in bounds and agreed upon by both the player and the opponent. DO NOT walk back to the original area where
the ball was hit from. This is a common
sense speed of play rule; please hit a provisional ball if you are not sure if
your ball may be out of bounds.
Golfers
who choose to play extra holes after the completion of the match are encouraged
to speak with course management about an applicable fee that will not be unfair
to the course nor the player. Playing golf is a privilege, and we appreciate
the owners of Quail Creek. Please show
respect for Ted and Brenda, and the course, by checking with the clubhouse
before playing extra holes.
The flag events will randomly be decided
by course management. Although money is removed from flag events to boost up
the end of the year prize money, and taken care of by the league, it is YOUR
responsibility to mark down if you had a skin, and/or collect your money. The
money is left at the golf course for your pick up when you return, unless you
are present at the time of victory.
Rules Committee: Ted Lewis, Dave Metzler,
Bob Cannon, & Bill Hutt. A
combination or majority will decide any disputes or controversy. If there are
still issues, a league vote by team managers/captains will take place.
