2010 Quail Creek Monday
Night Golf League Rules
All rules
not specifically addressed on this document are to automatically revert to the
official rules of golf.
League play
starts Monday, April 26th 2010.
A foursome will tee off every nine minutes. Beginning tee times are staggered during the
season to allow for daylight hours.
Please consult the official schedule for your tee times each week. If a golfer shows up late, the first option
is to allow the next tee time to go ahead if the next foursome is present and
ready to play. If the group tees off
without a player, that player will only be allowed to catch up if the next
group has not teed off yet. If the next
group has already started play on hole #1, the late
player must take the maximum score for hole #1 (which would be five over par)
and he can tee off on #2 with his group.
If the player hasn’t caught up by the time the group leaves the #3 tee
box, the match will be considered a forfeit.
Golfers must
be 18 years of age or older to participate in the league. Additionally, a player cannot be in high
school and active in a school sponsored sport, regardless of age.
League
sponsor fees are $100 per team. Fees
will be handed in to Ted Lewis in the Quail Creek clubhouse. If league fees have not been paid by the
start of the fourth week of play, team points will be forfeited by that
team. League officers will give reminders
each week to the teams who have not paid.
Points
earned will determine standings and league champion. Prize money will be paid to each team at the
end of the season, according to total points earned. Greens fees are to be paid in the clubhouse
each week, with extra paid for use of cart.
Greens fees are decided by Quail Creek Golf Course, and are to be
adhered to at all times.
Points will
be earned as follows: Each player will
match up with a player from the opposing team.
Highest handicaps should play highest handicaps,
and lowest plays lowest. If handicaps
are undetermined at the beginning of the round, a decision will be made by the
foursome as to who will play who. Once
the match has started, you cannot change your matchups. Two points will go to the player who wins the
most holes in match play. If there is a
tie in match play, each player will earn one point. One point will go to the player with the
lowest net score (Their real score minus their handicap). If players tie for low net score, each will
earn ½ point. At the end of all four
matches, the team with the lowest net score will earn 6 points. If both teams tie low net score, each team
will earn three points. Teams not
fielding four players will forfeit team points.
On the first
night of play, your handicap will be determined by your handicap (in this league
only) at the end of last season. If you
did not play at least three weeks during the last season, you will not have a
handicap in this league. Players without
a handicap will be scored by the modified calloway
system. Calloway is 80%, so if you shoot
10 over par during play, your handicap will be eight (8). The Calloway is only used the first round you
play, and only if you did not have at least three rounds played in this league
the season before. The maximum handicap
for this league is 18.
The second
time you play in the league, if you had a handicap the previous season, your
handicap will be the average between the first week you played and last
season’s handicap. The third time you
play, your handicap will be based on the first two rounds you played. The fourth round you play, your handicap will
be based on the first three rounds. For
the fifth and succeeding rounds, your handicap will be based on the last four
rounds you played. If
you are not sure if you have a handicap or not, please check on the handicap
sheet in the clubhouse. It
is the responsibility of each golfer and their teammates to write down the
correct handicap. If you write down the
wrong handicap, you will have to use the lowest of the
two handicaps between the correct one and the one used during play.
For your
convenience, the handicaps for the players who have played the most will be
printed on the scorecards. If you don’t
see your name on the scorecard, it does not mean you don’t have a handicap. Please check on the handicap sheet in the
clubhouse.
The maximum
score for each hole is five over par. If
you have not holed out after your fourth shot over
par, you must pick up your ball and take five over par for a score on that
hole. This is called a Quad-Hawk. You cannot win a hole if you take a Quad-Hawk
on that hole. If both players take a
Quad-Hawk on any particular hole, the hole is determined to be a tie,
regardless of strokes given on that hole.
Please print
the first and last name of each player on the scorecard next to the correct
team number. Write down the score for
each hole for each player, and add the scores at the end of the round. Write down each player’s handicap in the
appropriate box. A person from each team
should sign the scorecard, attesting that the scores for each hole are
correct. Put the scorecards on the table
in the clubhouse so the league secretary or clubhouse staff can collect them at
the end of the evening.
A match is
considered official when all teams have completed at least five holes. If a rainout occurs and players are called
off the course (and are unable to re-start that evening) before all teams
complete five holes, all matches will be cancelled and a rainout date
selected. Rain checks are issued by
Quail Creek staff according to the rules of the golf course. We have a great relationship with the owners
and staff at Quail Creek, and all decisions are made in cooperation and with
the safety of all golfers in mind. We
will golf in all weather conditions, as long as the course remains playable
according to the Quail Creek staff.
We are playing the golf
ball down at all times, according to the rules of golf.
You may not roll the ball or move it, unless the league and course
conditions call for it on a specific evening.
To avoid misunderstandings, please alert your opponent if you are moving
your ball or taking a drop for any reason.
All penalties are according to the official rules of golf. If there is a dispute over the correct
ruling, please finish the hole playing two balls and the dispute will be
mediated by league officials or club pro after the round.
If you hit
the ball out of bounds, you must hit the ball from the same spot, adding a one
stroke penalty. If you have hit the ball
near the out-of-bounds, and are not sure if it went out, PLEASE HIT A PROVISIONAL BALL. If you advance to where your ball is, and
find it was out of bounds, you will play the ball from the nearest spot and
take a 2-stroke penalty. You should NOT
go back to the original spot at that point.
This is a common sense league pace of play rule. If you are not sure, hit a provisional ball.
A lost ball
is considered to be lost when the person who hit the ball and/or his opponent
say the ball is lost. Please do not take
more than five minutes to look for a ball.
It is good etiquette to help your teammates and opponents look for lost
balls. After five minutes, please play
the ball from the spot nearest where the ball was lost, taking a 1-stroke
penalty. The player and his opponent
should agree on the spot where the ball should be placed. Again, in the event of a dispute, please play
two balls and the dispute will be mediated after the round.
LOCAL
RULES: Railroad ties surrounding cart
paths are to be considered as part of the path.
If they impede your swing you can take a free drop, giving yourself
complete relief no closer to the hole.
Railroad ties surrounding hazards are considered as part of the
hazard. If you hit your ball over the
water on hole #7, but the ball rolls up against or
under a railroad tie surrounding the water, your ball is in the hazard. This means you have not crossed the hazard,
regardless of where your ball originally landed. You must go back and hit from where your ball
first crossed the hazard, not closer to the hole.
Golfers
choosing to play extra holes after the completion of league play are required
to check in the clubhouse before going back out on the course. Applicable greens fees are decided by Quail
Creek as well as the availability of the course. Please respect Ted and Brenda by checking in
before playing extra holes.
Flag events
are available each night of league play.
If you want to enter an event, please sign up in the clubhouse before
teeing off and put a dollar in the corresponding box for each event you sign up
for. If you birdie a hole and are in the
skins game, it is your responsibility to write down the hole you birdied next
to your name on the skins sign-up sheet.
If you forget to write down your birdie, it will not be considered a
skin. Event winners can pick up their
winnings at the clubhouse. Event winners
will be posted on the current standings sheet and will be e-mailed to those who
request to be on the e-mail list.
